EMail from Vicki Truitt

Please stick around until the end and I’ll explain some of her falsehoods.

As you may be aware, my opponent was recruited 2-1/2 years ago by a
lobbyist from Austin, named Michael Quinn Sullivan (MQS), dba, Empower
Texans and Texans for Fiscal Responsibility.  He masquerades as a
champion for taxpayers.  In fact, what he seeks is control of the agenda
in Austin and control of the votes of the elected representatives.  He
is financed by a Midland millionaire, named Tim Dunn.

MQS tells members of the Texas Legislature how to vote on various
matters, and then threatens us, saying he’ll score us poorly on his
bogus conservative “scorecard” and support opponents in our Primary
Election races, if we don’t do as he says.

It is no surprise that my opponent has the endorsement of MQS/Empower
Texans/Texans for Fiscal Responsibility during the upcoming Primary
Election.

I have told Mr. Sullivan, in no uncertain terms, that I do not work for
him or his Midland sugar-daddy.  I work for the people of the 98th House
district, and if he wants to control the vote here, he can move here,
run for the office, get elected, and THEN he can control the vote of the
people I’m currently responsible for representing.

I feel so strongly that what this man is doing is harmful to the
legislative process and damages our representative form of government
that another Texas House member, Rep. Jim Keffer (R-Eastland), and I
have filed two complaints with the Texas Ethics Commission against
MQS/Empower Texans/Texans for Fiscal Responsibility.  One complaint is
for his failure to register as a lobbyist, as required by Texas law.
The other is for his organization’s failure to report campaign activity
as is required by Texas law.

MQS tried to defeat me two years ago and failed.  (Remember the Truitt
Blew It signs?)  Now, he has declared war on me.  I am his #1 target to
defeat in this year’s Republican Primary Election.  This is going to get
nasty.  It already is.

The ugly article in last Sunday’s Star-Telegram was written by a Houston
blogger who is an operative for MQS.  I am now in “discussions” with the
newspaper about their *failure to fact-check* that article.  The article
was full of incorrect information.  (For the record, I started our
business on my 30th birthday, in 1984, and I have a letter in hand from
the former, long-time CEO of JPS, Mr. Tim Philpot, stating that our
first contract with the hospital district was granted *through a
competitive RFP process in the early-1990s – almost a decade before I
was elected to public office. * I also have a *TCHD/JPS contract in our
business file* dated *December 20, 1991.*)

There is no doubt that the article, published as “news,” was written
with intended malice, and it libeled my professional and political
reputation.  I will deal with that in an appropriate manner.

You all know that roots can’t get any deeper here than mine are.  As has
always been the case, the people of this district come first, and I will
not be intimidated by MQS and my opponent’s nefarious tactics.

It is important to have the people of the district backing a
representative they know they can count on to protect their interests.

Your friendship and support means so much to me, and I am respectfully
requesting that you allow me to use your name as a community leader who
supports my re-election.  It will be targeted to voters in Keller, and I
know that your name will help earn the support of those who don’t
personally know me.

Thank you for making District 98 the very special place it is, and for
your friendship and support.

This is going to get really ugly, but with your help and God’s grace
we’ll get through it.  With your support, I will win this election.  But
even if I were to lose, I will take comfort in knowing that I am
standing up and fighting for what I know is the right thing to do.

Thank you! /Vicki/

Ok, now for some explanations.  Giovanni Capriglione was not recruited by MQS or this oil millionaire in 2010.  If he was, it sure would be a surprise as he neither received any money from them, nor was he endorsed by them.  In fact, I emailed Michael Quinn Sullivan in 2010 and asked him why he hadn’t endorsed in the HD98 race. He flatly told me that there were two good conservative candidates in the race (neither one was Vicki), so he wouldn’t be endorsing a candidate.  Gio basically self-funded his 2010 race—so much so I had to force him to take a $100 check from me.

Truitt is going to make this race about Michael Quinn Sullivan rather than Gio. Her tactic was made clear by her filing ethics complaints against MQS.  Notice she doesn’t bring up any issues in the race.  Gio is a true conservative, and those who read the Star-Telegram know they aren’t real fans of conservatives.  The article was about transparency in government and a sitting State Rep taking no bid contracts—ones handed to her because of her access at the State Capitol.  A State Rep that gets a bill passed about transparency in pensions that in fact allows public pensions to hide information from the public.

She will be the one to make this race ugly, not Gio. She has no choice because the truth is beginning see the light of day.

This is her only chance. I predict it will backfire on her.

Please support Giovanni today by going to his website and giving to his campaign.

I also have access to some extra yard signs. If you would like one, send me an email or post a comment.
